Annual Meadow-grass (Poa Annua) grows almost anywhere and everywhere! Growth is strongest in the late Spring, though there is often a flush of growth in Autumn, with flowering most prolific in Spring. The main feature that makes it such a successful grass plant is its ability to seed at cutting heights as low as 5 mm (3/16 inch).

Plants can become reproductive from the age of one month.

There are many different forms and it can spread rapidly by seeding. (Viable seeds can be dispersed on an approximate 10 day cycle). Soon after emergence, seedlings develop random roots, and tiller roots wherever they touch the soil. In the mature plant the majority of the roots are of this type.

A sharp bladed mower can be used to help reduce the population of Annual Meadow Grass, particularly in the Spring. It is important to "target" the seed heads as they come in to flower every 10 days or so. Mow when the seed heads can clearly be seen. Maintain your grass at a height of 25 mm (1 inch).
